When I was growing up, in the Fifties, we were on friendly terms. and lived and worked together easily. And even intermarried. Jeb Bush's wife, for example, was a Mexican.
When my parents retired, they lived for a while in Mexico, like many other Americans did (including many alcoholics).
I had the distinction of residing for a few days in a Mexican jail!
