I have the strong feeling that something is wrong with the world - and many other people do also. And we all feel that this, whatever it is - is a big something.
To see something this big - we have take the widest view possible. We have to take in everything - including the most difficult subject of all - ourselves. We have the strong impulse to see our problems out there, instead of in here.
This is also made difficult by the extreme complexity of today's world - where huge forces are pushing us around, as if we were objects, not people.
In fact, I think this is a big part of the problem - we have acquired the ability to see the world objectively - a very valuable skill - but we need to see the world objectively and subjectively - both. And we have not developed this enlarged skillset.
With our objective skills, we felt we were superhuman - and could exploit mere humans as we pleased. This is not a new observation - it has been noticed for over a hundred years - but not taken seriously enough. Because we did not realize that we had been changed.
I must repeat that - we have been changed - and for the worst! Without our realizing this. We have been switched onto another track - that is taking us nowhere.
And its most important change is in our attitude toward people - we don't like them, because they get in the way of more important things.
