The Tamales in Costa Rica are different from the Tamales in Mexico. In Mexico, and are wrapped in dried corn husks. In Costa Rica, they are wrapped in the leaves of the Platino (a close relative of the banana) and this gives it a different flavor. I like it myself.
The main ingredient is masa, or corn flour - pork meat or chicken meat is used - and almost anything else the maker wants to add.
They are cheap, and widely available - especially at Christmas - when the family pig gets slaughtered.
