Thinking About Our Guts

My Mother thought Guts was a horrible word, and never wanted to hear it in her presence. It was too animalistic - and she also said "I am not an animal!" Despite having four children the usual way.

What she thought she was, and what she really was - were two different things. In that way, she was a normal person for her place and time.

All this can be seen as amusing - but looking at it at a lower level (where things were really going on) it is not so amusing.

One of the things our reptilian brain does - is decide whether or not another person is like it. If it decides the other person is not like it - horrible results can follow. This can also work in the plural - if they are not like us - horrible things can follow. Such as the Holocaust.

This is the big difference between the US and Costa Rica. Up there, they do not like people very much - they are more interested in other things. But down here - they still like people.

There are big advantages to having impersonal skills - but having them without personal skills, is a big disadvantage.
