Americans did not Like the Mormons

This was true in the 19th Century, that saw Mormon Wars in Missouri and Illinois. And the arrest, imprisonment, and deaths of the Mormon leaders.

The Mormons got the message and got away from the US as far as they could. Clear across the Rocky Mountains, They were pursued by the Ameican Army. and the Mormons attacked their supply lines, which slowed them down but only temporarily.

The relationship between the Mormons and the Americans was complicated. They didn't want them in their country, and they didn't want them out of it!

Eventually, they made them part of the State of Utah, a free state that did not have slavery.

They were Americans, whether they wanted to be or not, When the elected their Senators and Representatives to the National Government, they refused to seat them!

This provided an opportunity for the RLDS church. who presented themselves as the good Mormons (without polygamy). And allowed them to claim the Kirtland Temple, that had been abandoned earlier.

The Mormons then disowned polygamy and became perfect law-abiding citizens. They were better Americans than the Americans were, and were favorites for the American security agencies.
