I was there as a traveler along with many surfboarders from Australia.
I was staying at a hotel on the Beach. when Sampson showed up and invited us to live at his house.
Jobs were so scarce, the people who had them had to retire after only a few years of work. The young women there were desperate to find anyone with a job.
The food was excellent. Sampson would pick the leaves for each day's meals, and grind them in a large pestle. His wife would cook them, using simple utensils. We would also drink the local Tea.
We didn't know it, but we were living in a timebomb, that would soon go off.
