Americans no Longer Want to Build a Better World

When did this happen? Sometime in the last half of the last Century, with the most rapid change happening in the Seventies. What was most striking about this, was that Americans, for the most part - were not aware of it. And are still not aware of it.

I can remember the relief Americans felt after WWII, when they could finally spend the money they were forced to save during the War. They had made lots of money during the war, and now could spend it on whatever they pleased! They build new houses, in new suburbs, and powerful new cars. And they also went to College, in huge numbers.

They had been impoverished during the Depression, but now, by the grace of God (and the War) - they had been redeemed!

They did help the losers of the War rebuild their economies. The first time in History, this had ever been done. But they also began the Cold War, fighting Communism, with all their strength. They ignored the poverty that gripped most of the world.

The World was in serious trouble, but America did not know how to help it. And really did not want to. They had it made, and could not be bothered with the rest.

And the rest included much of themselves. The parts of themselves that did want to build a better world. These better parts of themselves were treated badly. They were not killed, as had been the case in Fascism. They were just discriminated against, in ways they could easily ignore.

I can remember the Nineties, in Silicon Valley - when companies were coming and going, like mushrooms growing on manure. And no one (including therapists, of all kinds) was noticing this.

I was noticing - and I got out.
