The Implications of Unethical Behavior on a National Scale

I am reading The Predator's Ball, that happened in 1985. and learning something from it. These guys exploited weaknesses (1) in the governance of corporations, and (2) in attitude of the general public toward unethical behavior.

These Corporate Raiders were blatantly unethical, but got away with it - and got fabulous amounts of money, as their reward. Something was terribly wrong here, and is still wrong. I witnessed companies being taken over, and destroyed, when I worked in the Computer Industry, in the Eighties and Nineties. And some companies were formed just to exploit their investors. Everyone knew this was unethical, but no one seemed to care.

In the Nineties, Google's initial motto had been "Don't be evil." But recently it seems to have become " Don't oppose evil". And this has been the attitude of the general public for some time. Americans, who helped defined the term Neoliberalism,  have lost interest in making America Great, and only think of themselves.

I am also listening to a course on the Roman Republic, with its emphasis on Virtue. That the Romans took seriously - and was the ethical foundation of what became their Empire.
